History and Mission

The Michigan Clean Water Corps (MiCorps) was created in 2003 through Michigan Executive Order 2003-15 to assist EGLE in collecting and sharing water quality data for use in water resources management and protection programs. The Cooperative Lakes Monitoring Program (CLMP), launched in 1974, and the Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program, launched in 1998, were brought under the MiCorps umbrella at the time of its establishment along with the Volunteer Stream Cleanup Program. Our mission is to network and expand volunteer water quality monitoring statewide for the purpose of collecting, sharing, and using reliable data; to educate the public about water quality issues; and to foster water resources stewardship to facilitate the preservation and protection of Michigan's water resources.
